SAFAD is a British Charity run by students of Cranfield University. Since 1969 SAFAD has sent over 335 graduate and post-graduate volunteers out to over 20 different countries in the developing world. The volunteers work with local organisations on existing and new projects. They give technical assistance and expertise and receive field experience. It is an opportunity for very specific and practical education to be put to work directly to help those in most need. |
| |
Our aim is to provide practical pragmatic assistance on the ground, through the use of the latest training and science. Agriculture and water are of extreme importance to the countries and people with which we work and we hope to continue to be able to turn our education and training into direct benefit where it is most needed. Our major goals are:
(i) To relieve poverty in any part of the world by promoting appropriate development
(ii) To advance the education of the students of Cranfield University by the provision of overseas work experience |
| |
Each year SAFAD sends post-graduate students to developing countries. Each project is thoroughly assessed before volunteers are sent. The project must be one that can take advantage of the specialist skills of the graduate volunteers, as well as their value as another participant. SAFAD is able to offer skills in several key areas: Water Supply and Management, Sanitation, Irrigation & Drainage, Land Use & Soil Conservation, Crop Storage & Marketing, and Training. All the projects in which SAFAD are involved are adequately funded, long term projects, with a clear strategy and a specific set of goals, and with in-country support and funding. |
