smartgive experienced an issue on the morning of October 22nd that affected the appearance of user data on some of its fundraising pages. We fixed the issue and restored the impacted data. We apologize for inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and understanding during the downtime.
IMPORTANT: The user data affected on smartgive did not impact the processing of any credit card donations.
Credit card information is never actually entered on the smartgive site itself, nor are any credit card transactions processed via smartgive.
All credit and debit card donations are processed by our processing partner, Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). When a user goes to smartgive and chooses to make a credit card donation via Donate Now or Sponsor Me links, s/he is redirected to the CAF website. CAF is a registered UK charity: Registered Charity Number: 268369. For more information on CAF please see:www.cafonline.org.

ANSWERS
  1. Does your listing contain any non-UK charities?
Not at the moment, but the system is built to be multi-national and there are plans to expand its use into Europe and the USA.

  2. How do I search for a charity?
Check out the search page for full instructions.

  3. How many charities have you registered?
There are currently over 2,000 charities registered on our listing. This list is growing at a rate of six new charities a week. Other websites might boast greater numbers, but we have more comprehensive information available. And all the charities on our system have received their listing free of charge.

  4. What checks do you perform before allowing charities to upload their listing?
Firstly, we verify the charity’s Charity Commission number, SCO or tax exempt number. Then we verify the charity administrators’ details. Lastly, we check all information in the listing before it is uploaded, making sure it’s not inappropriate in any way.

  5. What information can I see when I search for a charity?
Charities are responsible for adding their own information, but you will usually be able to read about:

    • An overview of the charity
    • Their achievements
    • Their wish list
    • Their financial information
    • Any corporate involvement
    • Current projects
    • Volunteering opportunities
    • Special programmes

This information is entered and maintained by the charities themselves.
